Utility employee kicks 2 pound teacup chihuahua, breaks her neck and kills her!

What began as a day of packing and moving for Brianne Enos ended with the death of the family’s two-pound Teacup Chihuahua, Gwen, after a Southwest Gas Corp. employee kicked it and broke its neck, according to the family.
The family said the employee was at the home on Friday for a service call when he kicked the 9-year-old dog, breaking her neck and killing her after the dog ran out of the home and began to bark.
“He did this right in from of my wife while she’s holding my 2-month-old baby boy,” Kevin Enos said.
Brianne Enos called San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Hesperia station and filed a report on Friday, sheriff’s officials said.

The couple says their dog did run out and bark at the employee, whose name has not been released by Southwest Gas, but stated that the man did not give Brianne Enos enough time to put down her child and chase after the dog before he kicked it.
Southwest Gas sent its condolances along with their explanation.
“In the presence of Mrs. Enos and while outside of their residence, the service technician was charged twice by the homeowner’s aggressive dog which resulted in an unfortunate incident. Southwest Gas offers its condolences to the Enos family and regrets the unfortunate accident,” the statement continued.

Man who brutally beat puppy gets slap on the wrist!

A San Rafael man charged with beating his Chihuahua puppy pleaded guilty after a judge said she would reduce his charge to a misdemeanor and limit his sentence to 44 days in jail.

Jose Misael Cardenas, 20, will be sentenced March 11 by Judge Kelly Simmons, who offered the deal. Cardenas pleaded guilty to an animal cruelty count that prosecutors charged as a felony, but the judge has the discretion to make it a misdemeanor.

The investigation began on Aug. 27, when authorities received an anonymous tip from a resident on North San Pedro Road about someone beating a Chihuahua, according to the Marin Humane Society.

An animal control officer arrived to find the 6-month-old dog, Scooby, needing emergency treatment; it had bruises, was limping and lethargic. Cardenas, who said he owned the dog, denied any wrongdoing.

The dog was taken to the hospital and was diagnosed with
hemorrhaging to the left eye, bruising to its legs, chest and right ear, and fluid in its lungs, authorities said.

Prosecutors filed charges of animal cruelty, dissuading a witness and failure to take care of an animal. After a preliminary examination of the evidence in September, Judge Simmons ruled there was sufficient evidence to hold a trial on the animal cruelty charge, but she dismissed the two other charges.

Scooby, who was taken from Cardenas by the Marin Humane Society, has since been adopted, said Deputy District Attorney Aicha Mievis.

Cardenas told investigators he bought the dog at a flea market in Vallejo.

California man bought dog at flea market and severely beat him.

A 20-year-old San Rafael man was arraigned Wednesday on charges he severely beat his 6-month-old Chihuahua puppy, authorities said.

Jose Misael Cardenas could face up to three years and eight months in prison if convicted of animal cruelty and other counts, said Deputy District Attorney Linda Witong.

A plea hearing is pending. Cardenas was being held at the Marin County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail.

The investigation began on Aug. 27, when authorities received an anonymous tip from a resident on North San Pedro Road about someone beating a Chihuahua, said Carrie Harrington, spokeswoman for the Marin Humane Society.

An animal control officer arrived to find the Chihuahua, whose name is Scooby, needing emergency treatment for bruises, limping and lethargy. The dog's owner, Cardenas, denied any wrongdoing.
The dog's injuries Aug. 27 included hemorrhaging to the left eye and bruising to his lower legs, chest and right ear, said Dave Stapp, an officer with the Marin Humane Society.

The Humane Society seized Scooby and took the dog to the Pet Emergency and Specialty Center in San Rafael. After further investigation, authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Cardenas, and he surrendered to the jail Wednesday morning.

Scooby remained at the pet hospital and will be released Thursday, Harrington said. The Humane Society is arranging for a foster home for the dog pending the outcome of the criminal case.

Cardenas told investigators he bought the dog at a flea market in Vallejo.

Abandoned chihuahuas crowd Santa Barbara shelters

Chloe, the preening four-legged princess in the film "Beverly Hills Chihuahua," might want to take note. In this economy, even pampered pets from better addresses can quickly become Little Orphan Annies. Times staff writer Catherine Saillant reports:

In Santa Barbara County, three rescue shelters are housing a veritable glut of abandoned Chihuahuas. So many, in fact, that shelter managers are concluding a weeklong "Adopt-a-Chihuahua" campaign.
More than 100 of the high-energy pets went up for adoption Saturday. Though there's been a flurry of interest, more than 75 of the animals are still waiting for homes, said Animal Services Director Jan Glick.

Most were brought to county animal shelters as strays or were dropped off by owners who are moving or who can no longer afford to keep them, Glick said. High rents, rampant foreclosures and rising costs of pet food and veterinary care have dampened the popularity of the once-hip pooch, shelter operators say.

"People find they can't afford to feed them, or they lose their homes and they have to give up their animals," Glick said.

Personally, I think people are full of it. I don't care what happens, I am keeping my cats. There is no way I would bring them to a shelter to be killed! I could never give up my pets. I have had them for almost 10 years. I think it is just such a cop out when people say they are moving and can't take their pets. Why can't you take them? Because you are an idiot and didn't find housing that allows for pets? Tell the truth, tell us you have no compassion and are choosing to kill your pet instead of taking it with you and that you might get another animal in a few months or so. You are living in a dream world if you really think your adult cat or dog will get a home. People like this get my blood boiling!

These are the irresponsible a-holes who cause animals to be killed. They are ignorant about spaying and neutering and keeping their animals inside where it is safe. So, their cat is an indoor-outdoor cat, gets hit by a car and they go adopt a kitten from the shelter. The cycle continues...or god forbid they see a "free kittens" sign! I just want to rip people's heads off when I see signs like that. There is NO EXCUSE for not having your pet spayed or neutered. If you got off your lazy butts and looked online, you could find a low cost clinic or save the money you would use for those lattes at starbucks everyday and have enough to get your cat fixed at the end of the month.

Don't have pets if you can't be responsible!
