Rampaging Chimpanzee Killed, Dead Puppies and Disappearing Puppy Mill - all on the same property!

The Sheriff's Department had responded to a call Monday night on a request to help capture an angry chimp running loose on a highway outside Winston in northwest Missouri. When officers arrived, the 9-year-old chimp opened the patrol car door and grabbed the leg of a deputy, who fatally shot it, Chief Deputy Todd Watson said.

When Watson went to talk to the owners, he smelled a strong odor and heard barking from an estimated 100-200 small breed dogs.  The owners said they also had three other primates.

Watson returned with a search warrant the next day but only found 13 dogs and 2 cats, who appeared to be neglected and abused.  He also found nine dead puppies in the yard.  He did not find the dogs he smelled and heard the day before.

Brent Hudson, 49; his wife, Cherace Hudson, 41; and their friend Mary Overton, 52, were jailed on $5,000 bond. They did not have attorneys, Watson said.
The three other primates have been recovered. The Humane Society of Missouri is offering a reward for information on the dogs that were seen Monday but gone from the property by the time officials returned Tuesday.
State Agriculture Department spokeswoman Misti Preston said the breeder never had a state license. The home was in a remote location, with no neighbors nearby.
Missouri Agriculture Director Jon Hagler, who has said he wants to put bad breeders out of business, said in a statement that such operators put the health and welfare of animals at risk and place legitimate pet breeders at a competitive disadvantage.

91 of the approximately 200 dogs have been found and custody has been transferred to the Humane Society.

The Humane Society said that the breeds of the dogs include Yorkshire Terrier, Pekingese, Chihuahua, Maltese, Miniature Pinscher and Miniature Poodle.
Associate circuit court arraignments for the three people charged in the case - Daniel Hudson, 49; Cherace E. Hudson, 41; and Mary C. Overton, 52, all of Winston - will be Monday. All three are being held in the Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail in Pattonsburg, with $5,000 bonds.

The three people involved were charged at that point with numerous counts of animal neglect and abuse, and with owning exotic animals without a license. After the discovery of the dogs on Thursday, improper disposal of dead animals charges were also added against the three accused.

Puppy mill raided - some dead, dismembered, skulls hanging from trees

Animal Service officers confiscated 38 dogs and puppies Saturday afternoon in Boulder Creek, CA after finding "more dead dogs than we could count" and dog heads hanging from trees.

Inside the residence, officers found dead dogs at the foot of the bed and "feces everywhere."

Geisreiter said most of the dogs were in "pretty bad condition" and were scared and not friendly.

Officers found 38 dogs who were alive and an unknown number of dead dogs and decomposing carcasses. Only one full carcass was found, the rest were body parts, including skulls hanging from trees, Geisreiter said.

"There were decapitated dogs heads all over the property, hanging from trees," she said. "We don't know how the dogs died or why their heads were cut off. We are investigating him for crimes against animals."

Robert Brunette will reportedly be representing himself at his trial which is scheduled to begin on March 23, 2009.

People living in house with 13 dead cats and 2 dogs

Police continue to investigate cases of animal cruelty at an Arvada home, a suburb of Denver. The carcasses of 13 cats and two dogs were removed from a house at 54th & Cody on Tuesday.

Two dogs were rescued and are now awaiting adoption at the Table Mountain Animal Center .

Police say they've been to the home repeatedly since last summer on complaints of loose animals and trash in the yard.

"There were some calls that we came out and addressed those issues with the homeowners regarding dogs in the yard and such but there was nothing ever to lead us to believe what was happening inside the house and the number of dead animals that were inside the house," said Susan Medina, Arvada Police spokesperson.

One woman who noticed an underfed dog in the front yard last August wonders why more wasn't done.

"Because if they would have done something six months ago, they probably wouldn't have found 15 dead animals," said Carol, who didn't want her last name used. "Maybe four or five, but for 15 dead animals in six months, that's a little hard to believe."

Dog skinned and eaten by convicted child molester recently released

Dog owners in a quiet Crandall neighborhood can't imagine what made 54 year old Randall Blaylock, 50 year old Richard Roach and 45 year old Jeffrey Fuller brutally kill a medium-sized black dog early Tuesday morning. Roach was just released from prison this past October after serving time for child molestation.

Lee Cagle lives across the street from the house where the incident occurred. "It's kind of bad for the neighborhood. Just living across the street from someone like that," he said Wednesday afternoon.

Around 1:00am Tuesday, a Murray County sheriff's deputy responded to Blaylock's home on Greyland Farm Road. The caller said some men cut off a dog's head and were then eating the dog's remains.

Murray County Sheriff Howard Ensley described what the officers saw when they responded: "Three males in the kitchen and living room area had quite a bit of blood on them. On their hands, on their face, on their clothes, on their shoes."

All three men were very intoxicated. They first said they killed a deer. Later Fuller admitted Blaylock and Roach killed a dog.

"The officers found a spot in the backyard where it had an axe with some blood on it," Sheriff Ensley added. "[They] found some wood out there with a tremendous amount of blood on it, around the ground there."

The report then says the deputies noticed a bad smell coming from a burn barrel nearby. Inside the deputies found the dog's head, skin and feet. "At that point found the animal that had been skinned in the freezer in a plastic bag," Sheriff Ensley said.

Cagle said he couldn't believe it when he heard the details. "They put it in the freezer. The way they talk, they cut it up like a deer and everything."

Neighbors tell us a sign that says, 'Dog House for Sale' was up about a week ago. That's before this incident happened. We found the sign on the ground covered in snow.

"I saw it when I went down to the mailbox the other day. I just happened to see the sign over there. It was down there for quite a while," added Cagle.

Sheriff Ensley had no explanation for this case of animal cruelty. "One of them made the statement they had just carried out God's plan."

The felony aggravated cruelty to animals charge carries a maximum fifteen thousand dollar fine and up to five years in prison.

Deputies had to wait for the men to sober up before questioning them... After Deputy Brown read Randall Blaylock his Miranda rights, he asked what was in the plastic bag in the freezer.

Blaylock said it was "processed dog."

70 Dead Siamese Cats in Bags...

Authorities are trying to find out who stuffed 70 dead Siamese cats into seven large trash bags and dumped them onto a road in suburban San Antonio.
San Antonio television KABB reports the dead cats were found Thursday in the Guadalupe County town of Marion. The animals were all adults.
Guadalupe County Sheriff Arnold Zwicke says the cats appeared to have been kept in a freezer or refrigerator. They've been buried at a site in Guadalupe County.
Marion is located 23 miles east-northeast of San Antonio.
This sounds like a breeder to me.  With this economy, nobody really has money to buy a cat.  This is such a disgrace that a breeder, who supposedly cares about the animals they breed, would dump dead cats on the side of the road like trash.  I despise breeders simply due to the fact that I am out there, dealing with the pet overpopulation problem, and I see cats dumped, hit by cars, abused, etc.  We have far too many animals and breeders are only adding to the problem.
I do believe that there are responsible (used in the loosest sense) breeders who do care about who buys their animals.  There are other breeders who don't care who buys them as long as they are gone.
If you want a specific breed, contact breed rescues.  Breed rescues typically have one breed of cat or dog and that is all they deal with.  Also try general animal shelters because often times, they have a breed of cat or dog that you might want to adopt.
Why buy from a breeder when you can save a life that was born to a stray-not to a deliberately impregnated animal.  Adopt-don't buy!

Over 20 dogs found dead and dying in field in Nebraska

45 year-old Denise Withee of Mapleton, Iowa will face charges for animal abuse and abandonment after being accused of breeding dogs and then dumping them on the side of the road in Nebraska. Denise Withee has plead 'not guilty' to three counts of cruel neglect of animals.

With each count, Withee faces up to 5 years in jail and a $5,000 fine.

The charges stem from an August 1st incident, where 23 dogs were found dead or dying in a Grand Island cornfield.

Authorities linked the dogs to Withee through a microchip found in one of the animals.

Withee is facing additional charges in Iowa for 20 dogs that were found running at large and 27 more dogs that were found in two separate homes in Monona County, Iowa, said Sgt. Roger Krohn of the Monona County Sheriff's Department.

On July 31, 23 dogs were found dead or dying in the cornfield and 13 more were taken from Withee when she was arrested at a local motel Aug. 2. The hotel room had been paid for by Roland Bowling, according to the Hall County Sheriff's Department. Bowling is charged with being an accessory to a felony and providing false information to law enforcement. Bowling is associated with Denise Withee.

A pre-trial conference has been scheduled for January 28.

Kindergarten Teacher Arrested-Starved Chained Dog Had Seizures in Backyard Resulting in Death

A dog house, a bowl and a chain are all that are left of Fluff Ball.

The lab mix belonged to a Metro school teacher and her husband. They are facing felony charges alleging they starved their dog to death. Fluff Ball was about 8 years old and weighed 20 pounds.

"It should have weighed 45 to possibly even 60 pounds," said Animal Control's Judy Ladebauche. "This little dog weighed 20 pounds."

Ladebauche said Fluff Ball died of emaciation and starvation.

Sunday, a neighbor called police when the dog, chained to a tree, seemed to be having problems.

"They found the dog on a chain having severe seizures," Ladebauche said.

No one could tell Animal Control officers exactly how long it had been since Fluff Ball's last meal. Officers said another dog in the home seemed healthy and well-fed.

The dog's owners, Elizabeth and David Sadler, were arrested Monday and charged with aggravated animal cruelty. No one answered the door Thursday at the couple's Antioch home.

"(They) seemed upset and angry and felt that it was just a dog, but, unfortunately, we don't see it that way," Ladebauche said.

Elizabeth Sadler is a teacher at Hattie Cotton Elementary School, where she was arrested. She was an interim teacher until September, when she was hired full-time as a kindergarten teacher. She is now on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Sadler and her husband were being held in Metro jail on $10,000 bond each. Both have been released.

A hearing is scheduled for Jan. 7.

Michael Mondelli is the Judge for both of them. The hearing is in the Birch Bldg, Court Room 4C.
The prosecutor is Almalina Hernandez.

David L. Sadler's Case Number is GS412289
Elizabeth Joy Sadler's Case number is GS412290

Dead Dog as Art?

To Costa Rican "artist" Guillermo "Habacuc" Vargas it is. He found a dog on the street, paid two children to catch him and bring him back to him, tied him up, and gave explicit instructions for the dog to not be fed. Obviously, the dog died.

Habacuc's exhibition included a legend spelled out in dog food reading "You are what you read," photos and an incense burner that burned an ounce of marijauna and 175 "rock' of crack cocaine. In the background, according to reports, the Sandista national anthem played backwards.

According to the artist, his "art" was a tribute to Natividad Canda, a Nicaraguan thief who entered an auto shop at 11 pm, with two other people in Costa Rica. He was attacked and subsequently killed by two guard dogs, who guarded the business after hours. There is some controversy on how he died as the article reports the police did not attempt to shoot the dogs for fear of wounding the man, and that video shot showed the dogs walk away from the man and walk back without the police doing anything to get the lifeless man out of the situation. Habacuc told the daily La Nacion, "I won't say the dog died. The importance to me is the hypocracy of the people where an animal is the focus of attention where people come to see art but not when it's in the street starving to death."

"The same thing happened with poor Natividad Canda. The people sympathized with him only after he was dead," the artist added.

After the dog died and his exhibit became "art". He's been chosen to represent Costa Rica in the "Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008".

More information on Natividad Canda, in this ticotimes.net article.

So, this guy felt that killing this dog was an appropriate punishment for society letting this thief die while trying to enter someone else's property after business hours? Then his country gives him an award!?

Sample Letter to Send the Gallery
I am writing regarding the horrifying actions of Guillermo Habacuc Vargas, who paid local children to catch a dog on the street and then confined, starved and publicly displayed the dog as an “art” exhibit until the innocent animal died of starvation.

I along with many people world wide am outraged t hat Guillermo habacuc Vargas has been selected to represent Costa Rica in “Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008″,This man is by no definition of the word an artist he is a criminally insane sadist and enjoys inflicting prolonged suffering upon his innocent victims.he is a danger to all of society as it is well documented that those with the capacity to intentionally cause harm to an animal have the same capacity to harm humans.

To state that this animal would have died eventually of natural causes is unjustifiable and beyond logical, rational thinking.

'Art' - dead dog on displayTo allow Guillermo habacuc Vargas to represent Costa Rica in Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008 will in no way benefit Costa Rica, the world is watching and the actions of this so called artist has brought much negative assumptions as to the humanity of the people of Costa Rica and the fact that the many witnesses of this animals suffering did nothing and that the organizers of this event allowe d this rather than taking action to see that Guillermo Vargas be criminally charged with animal abuse is sending the world a message that Costa Rica consists of a cruel, uncivilized society that has no regard for life but enjoys viewing and contributing to the loss of life.

Each and every person who knew of and witnessed the suffering of this innocent dog is equally as guilty of causing it’s uncalled for death.

And to let this crime go unpunished and instead be awarded by Guillermo Vargas representing Costa Rica in Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008 is unacceptable and shameful not only to Costa Rica but to all participants of this event.

I urge you,do not condone the heinous actions of Guillermo Vargas by allowing him to participation in Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008.He should be jailed and prosecuted to the fullest extent of law for this animals death, not representing Costa Rica as an artist for he is not an artist and to refer to him as such is an insult to all true artists.

Sincerely,
Your Name

Officers find skeleton of chained dog

Animal control officers found a dog skeleton chained to a concrete block and a dead puppy wrapped in a garbage bag at a condemned house in Decatur this week.

Animal Services Director Mindy Gilbert said officers rescued two other adult pit bull dogs and three puppies from 1302 Pisgah Road S.E. on Monday afternoon. The two adult dogs will probably be euthanized because of health problems, she said.

Gilbert said she didn’t know how long the animals had been abandoned, but their owner, 23-year-old Lakenya Elliott, will face criminal charges.

“This is somebody who abandoned the dogs there and knew they were there,” Gilbert said. “One of the dogs was the skeletal remains of an adult dog chained up in the backyard. ... It was pretty much a skeleton. There was very little left but bones.”

Gilbert said it’s possible the puppies had gnawed the remains of the dead dog.

“The other dead one was a puppy wrapped in a garbage bag sitting on the lawn,” she said.

Elliott signed the live animals over to the shelter, Gilbert said.

“The two adult dogs that we have are in pretty debilitated physical condition, which indicates to me that this is an ongoing situation,” Gilbert said. “Both tested positive for heart worms and intestinal parasites and are malnourished.”

Gilbert said she believed the puppies could be nursed to health.

All the dogs were found outside the residence. The owner left the adult animals tethered and the puppies running loose, Gilbert said.

“You know how cold it’s been lately,” she said. “One dog did have a barrel. There was a beat-up doghouse that had holes all around, so it wasn’t providing shelter. They were without food and water.”

Gilbert said that because Elliott cooperated in turning the animals over to authorities, she will be summoned to court for arraignment rather than arrested on warrants.

“I think they’re going to be looking at multiple charges,” she said.
