Low cost spay/neuter in New Jersey-April 20

Appointments are now being taken for a low cost spay/neuter clinic to be held on April 20 for cats and dogs owned by lower-income Ocean County residents.
The clinic will be given at at the American Veterans (AMVETS) Hall, Route 571, in Jackson.
"The low cost clinics can be very helpful to families with limited funds who wish to spay or neuter their pet, but can't afford it during the current economic downturn," said Freeholder Deputy Director Gerry P. Little.

"It makes sense to prevent unplanned litters, since most pet owners are not professional breeders," said Ella Boyd, VMD, public health coordinator. "The low cost spay/neuter clinic is a tool to help stop the bringing of unwanted puppies or kittens into an already heavily-populated pet world."

Dr. Boyd noted that some pet owners are not able to afford the full cost of neutering or spaying an animal. "The clinic can help a family of modest means meet the costs of such a service. For $30, a family can have its cat spayed or neutered or the family dog fixed for $45."

Rumen said the clinic will be held in a mobile surgical clinic to be located in the parking lot at the American Veterans (AMVETS) Hall, Route 571. Dog appointments begin at 8:30 a.m., while cat appointments begin at 9 a.m. There is a two pet maximum per household.

"The procedures will be performed by licensed veterinarians using dissolvable stitches," Rumen added. "At the time of the procedure, the pet also will receive a rabies shot."
Little stated, "Once spayed or neutered, your pet should be happier and you may be helping it by reducing the risk factors for certain types of feline cancers and diseases."

"Pre-registration is necessary and applicants must qualify for participation based upon household income, which can be up to 185 percent of the federal poverty level," Rumen said. "For this program, income verification is necessary. To pre-register and to receive more information, including maximum income eligibility, please call 732-657-8086."

Low-cost vaccines and micro-chipping services and other veterinary services are also provided.
Pet owners drop their cats and kittens off at the van location in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. The Spay Mass Van operates five days a week and travels to numerous locations in Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire.

$10 Spay/Neuter Feb. 25, 26 in Arizona

The City of Prescott and United Animal Friends are hosting a low cost spay/neuter clinic for dogs and cats on February 25th and 26th at the Petco on SR 69 and Walker Rd.
According to Community Planner, Ryan Smith, the cost for dogs will be $10 for either spay or neuter. "The balance of the surgery will be paid from a five-thousand dollar grant awarded by the AZ Companion Animal Spay and Neuter Committee."
The funds, explained Smith, are authorized through the sale of Arizona's "pet-friendly" license plate, which are used to increase spay and neuter efforts in our community. "City staff will be on hand to issue a dog license to anyone who may be interested. Rabies vaccinations will be available for patients undergoing surgery, but not to the general public," he added.
The City of Prescott Animal Control does not intake cats. Therefore, United Animal Friends will offer feline spay and neuter for a fee of $10.
The City works cooperatively with United Animal Friends to meet their goal of No More Homeless Pets, Yavapai County (NMHP). "By increasing the number of animals that are spayed and neutered, we will reduce the number of animals that come into Animal Control and other facilities. That saves lives and tax dollars," said Smith.
Veterinarians and medical facilities are provided by Plateauland Mobile Veterinary Clinic. To schedule an appointment on February 25th or February 26th, please call 928-526-5964 x200.
Hours of operation: Tuesday thru Sunday, 11am to 6pm (closed Monday). Cash is preferred. Income verification and proof of address required.
To order a pet-friendly license plate, click here then click on personalized /specialized plates. Or, call the ADOT Motor Vehicles Division at 800-251-5866.

The mobile clinic, which includes a veterinarian and support staff, today is expected to visit the Oz Glaze Senior Center, 13969 Veny Webb in Horizon City.

Tuesday, it will make a stop at the Eastwood (Album) Park, 3110 Parkwood and will be at Marty Robbins Park, 11600 Vista Del Sol, on on March 24 and 25.

The clinic on March 27 heads to the K5 Bakery and Grocery store, 513 Ascencion, and will visit the La Fe Montana Vista Community Center, 14618 Greg, on March 28 and 31.

Stray dogs have been a concern for some residents in East El Paso and the service is meant to stem the number of animals euthanized throughout the county.

# Animals must be older than 4 months and younger than 6 years for the service.

# The pet must be in good health.

# Current proof of rabies vaccination is required.
